Journaling Tips!

by Sheila Mankulich, Scrapbook Designer

You’ve spent countless hours cropping and designing that special layout and now it’s time to tackle the journaling process!  While one picture may be worth a thousand words, there are some things a photo just can't say.

I am often asked, “How do you know what to write?”  One of the most creative and special things about scrapbook journaling is that there really are no wrong things to say when incorporating words into your layouts.

You can base your journaling on the facts – dates of special events such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. Poems, quotes and song lyrics are an amazing way to capture that special moment with words! Try adding the lyrics of your wedding song along side a picture of your first dance as husband and wife – I guarantee every time you look at this layout you will instantly relive that magical feeling!

One of my favorite ways on deciding what to journalize is to let my mind go back to the moment the memory was captured on film. For example, as I look at pictures of my precious baby girl fast asleep in her crib, I ask myself - what do I remember most about this moment in time? What do I want her to know about my dreams and hopes for her? Feelings from the heart are the greatest gift you can give anyone; why not share them to be remembered for generations to come!

How ever you decide to add words to your special pages remember to have fun with it – keep it as simple or detailed as you choose. Feelings have no boundaries so let your imagination and creativity soar!

Military Theme Scrapbook Page

by Vicky, a Proud Wife of an American Soldier

The picture I submitted is my husband on a Berm Mission while on tour in Iraq. The background I used is colors of uniform they wore while overseas. A berm is a dirt wall that had to placed around the city and their mission was to build it and repair it. The pictures are equipment they used to build the berms around the city. This prevented people sneaking in and causing harm. I used a map to show where they were serving their time while gone. Click the image to see it in a larger size.
